Weekends

We are working in conjunction with Jamyang Bath who are offering two weekend courses at the Lam Rim Bristol Centre during this programme as follows:

Perfecting the Patient Mind

Led by Kay Cooper and Gordon McDougal

Sunday 30 September, 10:30am - 5:00pm

It's almost impossible for a day to go by without something disturbing us. From minor irritations to major problems, life lines us up with irritations and frustrations. It doesn't have to be that way. When we know how valuable having patience is and when we have the tools to develop patience we can turn our life around.
Buddhism lists six perfections that are a bodhisattva's actions, of which patience is the third. It's more than just putting up with a long wait at a soggy bus stop. Within the perfection of patience is the art of dealing with problematic situations - seeing how we can turn those around and grow from them - and the skill of not retaliating against or feeling anger towards those who harm us but, instead, seeing how they provide us with the opportunity to profoundly transform our mind.

Transforming Problems Into the Spiritual Path

Led by Martin Kerrigan

Sunday 11 November, 10:30am - 4:30pm

We all experience problems and difficulties, from worries about work or family to problems associated with ill health and ageing. The practices of Thought Transformation (Tibetan: Lojong ) offer us the opportunity to utilise difficult situations productively within the spiritual path. They can help us to develop qualities such as patience, love, compassion and wisdom, which will contribute to our own happiness as well as putting us in a better position to truly benefit others

An Open Heart and a Clear Mind: Developing Bodhicitta
Foundation of Buddhist Thought

Led by Lynne Knight

Sunday 9 December, 10:30am - 4:30pm

During this retreat we will follow the steps mapped out over the centuries by the Indian and Tibetan Buddhist masters. They lead us to bodhicitta, a mind that is imbued with a strong sense of love and compassion for all other living beings, a feeling of dearness and closeness to all. From that mind there arises the the natural wish to help all beings in the most profound way possible. The day will consist mostly of guided meditations, interspersed with discussions.
